Literature Text
Were this two hundred years ago,
On bonnet! On coat!
Out the door!
In mulberry-gay skirt from the tailor’s,
and letter in hand to be mailed,
I should whisper delicious
(with peach-tinted guilt) –
Oh, I’m going
to see
you
to-day!
Were this two thousand years ago,
and I a shell-purple-clad maid,
philosopher you
would have
dazzled
devoutly
spring-garlanded
me.
On bonnet! On coat!
Out the door!
In mulberry-gay skirt from the tailor’s,
and letter in hand to be mailed,
I should whisper delicious
(with peach-tinted guilt) –
Oh, I’m going
to see
you
to-day!
Were this two thousand years ago,
and I a shell-purple-clad maid,
philosopher you
would have
dazzled
devoutly
spring-garlanded
me.
I'm glad that it isn't two hundred or two thousand years ago... But it's sometimes pleasant to skim the surface of dreams.
